Progress? What’s that? The room had to take a backseat while we tackled the rest of the house’s high-priority drama. After we moved in November, I finally found time to prep the room for its design touches. The color scheme? Vintage vibes all the way! The hunt for the perfect carpet led me to a stunning, plush dark green beauty from ITC Carpets. Paired with the irresistibly rich RAL8017 chocolate brown for the walls. The seats? They had to be a warm, rich and smooth. Dark yellow or cognac color. Tasty!
Fresh paint and vintage vibes
Next up, I had to rescue the floor outlet boxes from their concrete prison and get them prepped for the carpet crew’s grand arrival. I tidied up the cables and gave everything a good clean—no more heavy work meant no more sneaky construction dust invading the place. A few days after the carpet was laid, I dove into painting the walls. I went with the same color I used in my previous room. Sikkens Alphacron Matt SF was the winner again, thanks to its no-nonsense vibe: no reflections, easy to clean and a breeze to maintain.
Now it’s go-time for moving the gear and building the furniture for the office area. Bonus: my wife’s about to be thrilled since I’ll finally be clearing out the wardrobe and reclaiming that chunk of the bedroom currently held hostage by woofers and speakers. Talk about a win-win!
Lighting reworked
I took a second look at the lighting setup, and surprise, surprise: those lights I bought weren’t as shallow as the manual claimed. Turns out the power supply was sticking out above the casing. Not exactly ideal for squeezing it into the 5-6 cm gap below the insulation. Lucky for me, I was able to return them. Now I’m leaning toward using LED strips in sleek black profiles. Just need to do some math on the cable diameter to handle the high wattage and low current (24V). More math, less stress!
